Bellwoods Centres for Community Living offers clients non-medical support services, accommodation, and independent living education through Supportive Housing and Outreach services and programs.

Support services are delivered under the client's direction, provide assistance with the activities of daily living, and include:

  • bathing and dressing
  • toiletting
  • personal grooming
  • meal preparation
  • assistance with eating
  • homemaking (at some locations)

Outreach Services offer prescheduled support services for people living in the community. Services are provided in the client's residence, a place of employment, or an educational facility where clients pursue a degree, certificate or diploma. Services are subsidized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Supportive Housing Services offer transitional and permanent accommodation in a range of settings, all with 24-hour access to support services. Rents are geared-to-income and services are subsidized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Independent Living Programs maximize independence and quality of life and cover areas related to an individual's well-being, such as budgeting, communication, mobility and stress management. Clients' goals are achieved through our programs or linking to resources in the community. Clients establish their own goals with staff assistance.

The Mobile Independent Living Program (MILE) provides education and support for people in the community on a one to one basis, and offers training in independent living skills, adaptive coping skills and the responsibilities of directing services. The MILE program normally lasts from six to twelve months.

The Transitional Living Program, provided at Bellwoods Park House, 300 Shaw Street, enables clients to reach their potential for independent living in the community. The two year program offers intensive training in daily living skills.

Program Support is provided at the Cooperative Living Project, 389 Church Street. Educators work on behalf of clients in implementing life-skill related goals.
