Bellwoods
Centres for Community Living offers clients non-medical support
services, accommodation, and independent living education
through Supportive Housing and Outreach services and programs.
Support
services are delivered under the client's direction,
provide assistance with the activities of daily living, and
include:
bathing and dressing
toiletting
personal grooming
meal preparation
assistance with eating
homemaking (at some locations)
Outreach
Servicesoffer
prescheduled support services for
people living in the community. Services are provided
in the client's residence,
a place of employment, or an educational facility where
clients pursue a degree, certificate or diploma.
Services are subsidized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Supportive
Housing Servicesoffer
transitional and permanent accommodation in a range of
settings, all with 24-hour access to support services.
Rents are geared-to-income and services are
subsidized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

Shaw Street, Toronto Bellwoods
Park House has thirty-two fully
accessible one-bedroom and bachlelor apartments. Fourteen
units are dedicated to our Transitional Living
Program and
eighteen for permanent accomodation.

Church Street, Toronto The
Cooperative Living Project is a shared living environment
with support services and program support for twelve
people. The downtown location offers a shared dining
area and
lounge
recreation
area.

Summerhill Road, Etobicoke The
Mimico Project has twelve accessible
apartments integrated into the Mimico Cooperative Apartment
Project.
Independent
Living Programs maximize independence and quality of life and cover areas
related to an individual's well-being, such as
budgeting, communication, mobility and stress management.
Clients' goals are achieved through our programs or linking
to resources in the community. Clients establish their
own goals with staff assistance.
The
Mobile Independent Living Program(MILE)provides
education and support for people in the community
on a one to one basis, and offers training
in independent living skills, adaptive coping
skills and the responsibilities of directing
services. TheMILE program
normally lasts from six to twelve months.
The
Transitional Living Program,
provided at Bellwoods
Park House, 300 Shaw Street, enables
clients to reach their potential for independent
living in the community. The two year program
offers intensive training in daily living skills.
Workshopsare
available to all people with physical disabilities
living in the greater Toronto area. They are free of charge
and
include
refreshments. Support service workers can be provided if
requested in advance. Registration is required. Topics
cover such areas as Communication, Nutrition and
Cooking, are reviewed annually and vary according to the
interests of participants. Featured topics over
the last few years, for example, have included the Ontario Disability
Support Program (ODSP),
Housing, Volunteer Work, Leisure and Recreation,
Cooking for One and Foodsmarts, Assistive Devices, and Safety.
