The MILE Program (Mobile Independent Living Education) was started by Bellwoods Centres in 1996 to enable clients to perform activities meaningful to them.

The MILE team, consisting of one educator and two occupational therapists, collaborates with clients to identify and pursue goals related to independent living.

MILE is available to all people sixteen years or older with a permanent physical disability living in the greater Toronto area.

The MILE Program is mobile: our staff meet with clients in their homes or the community.

MILE provides professional support to enable independent living skills in areas such as:

learning to direct your own services
becoming more mobile
finding employment or a volunteer opportunity
preparing a meal
managing finances
linking to community resources, such as swimming instruction
learning healthy lifestyle choices
how to be safe at home and in the community
making home more accessible
enhancing face-to-face and written communications
being safe at home

Interested applicants may apply through the Project Information Centre (PIC) at the Centre for Independent Living in Toronto (CILT): 416-599-2458, or contact us by phone at 416-696-9663 ext. 218
